About
The Mason-Dixon Discoverys Chapter was formed June 5th, 2004, to provide another local chapter option for DOAI members in the area served by the chapter. Chapter target stares are North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware, New York and Ohio. The goal is to promote opportunities to enjoy the company of fellow Discovery owners and exchange information relevant to our coaches. Simply put, to have a good time and enjoy this unique RV lifestyle. What could be better!
Although most people think of the Mason-Dixon Line as the boundary between the Union and the Confederacy, the line was created more than 100 years before the American Civil War. Confusion over land grants to the Penn family of Pennsylvania and the Calvert family of Maryland led the two families to court to settle the boundary question. The Court Chancery in England ruled that latitude 39°43' north should serve as the Pennsylvania / Maryland border. Surveyors Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon were sent from England to tackle the task of marking the boundary. After four years of hard work, their 244-mile line was completed and the boundaries were settled.
It wasn't until the Missouri Compromise that the border took on the role it is best known for today. The Compromise established a boundary between the slave states of the south and the free states of the north. This boundary became known as the Mason-Dixon Line because it began in the east along the Mason-Dixon Line.
The Mason-Dixon Discoverys chapter members do not look at the line as a divide but rather, as a bridge between Discovery owners in this part of the country. So whether you enjoy your eggs with home fries, hash browns, or grits, please join with other Discovery owners to share the RV experience. Local chapters are really a great way to get to know each other! We would love to have you in our chapter family.
